In 2001, the MonCre Telephone Cooperative Scholarship was established. It is for students who attend high school within its local telephone service area and whose families are members of the cooperative. The scholarship is for $1,500. per year, for four years, and is provided for tuition to an accredited four-year college or two-year educational institution. Since its beginning, this program has awarded $15,000.00 to qualified applicants.
Another scholarship in which MonCre participates is available to youths within our coop. The Foundation for Rural Service provides a generous one-time award of $2,500.00 for qualified students. The foundation itself provides $2,000.00 and MonCre supplements $500.00 if the winning applicant resides in our service area. We’re looking for a winning applicant!
The Youth Tour is another important educational program provided by MonCre.
Two qualified students are given the opportunity to participate in an educational chaperoned tour, all expenses paid, to Washington , DC . MonCre has been very pleased with the outstanding students who have participated.
From the college scholarships to the fun day of the Sheriff’s Department, MonCre has been fortunate to play a part in the lives of children and youth, and will continue to do so. Not only just a hope, it is our responsibility to encourage the education of all our community’s children, to broaden their horizons and to guide them with honesty and grace.
We appreciate the parents within the MonCre membership who work diligently to provide for the well being and potential of their children; who realize that education is the cement that forms a foundation for success and builds a lifetime of understanding.
Children will remember growing up here. We want that memory to be cherished.
“Youth is, after all, just a moment, but it is the moment, the spark that you always carry in your heart.”
Sincerely,
