If you’ve noticed all the activity at MonCre, you’ll be
pleased to know that after much discussion and planning, the wheels are now
in motion for another important upgrade in your telephone service.
The so-called ‘soft switch’, the very latest in
switching networks, was installed in February.
This will gear us up to a level to provide fiber to homes in our
entire service area. It will not
be an inexpensive process, but we are uniquely prepared and financially
secure to continue forward.
As a coop, we have a mandate to reinvest in new
technology, which generally happens about every ten years.
Funding is provided through Rural Utilities Service, and this will be
our 14th loan application.
All, we are pleased to report, have been successful loans with no
late payments. We maintain an
excellent credit score. Once
approval is finalized, construction begins within the next few months.
Eighty percent of the entire project is construction, with 700 miles
of fiber optics cable to be buried.
The benefits of fiber optics will have a pronounced
impact on our service area.
Unlike copper cables in use today, it is immune to all types of weather
conditions such as lightening and moisture.
Fiber optics also eliminates distance issues in connecting rural
customers to mainstream technologies and also opens up the opportunity for
unlimited amounts of information to be sent to your home such as, IP
Telephony, Super High Speed Internet, Multiple High Definition Video
Channels, Alarm Monitoring Systems and so much more.
Our goal is to become a full-service provider,
answering all your telephony and communications needs.
It isn’t service just down the road, but coming.
Sooner than you think, right to your door – via fiber optics.
