Product: Waste management equipment, currently serving Southeastern municipalities. Producing 40 to 60 loaders a year, they have the capacity to build even more. The largest dealer in the area, their products are sold through dealers and trade shows.
Start up: Began the company in 1973. After working with the McLemore Plantation, he ventured out to start his own business. The bookkeeping and accounting was done by his wife, Patsy.
Highlights: It takes a lot of hard work and willingness to give up personal time and hours. The whole family has been a part of the business. His wife, two sons and daughter are working at Ramer Manufacturing, and each has important roles in the life of the company. Daughter Lynn controls the actions of the robotic arms, possibly the only “robots” in Ramer residence. With a cost of $130,000, robots must perform flawlessly for Lynn, who put the robot through its welding paces.
Controlling robotics was easier than controlling the weather, in 2000. Indelibly etched to memory, Miles remembers February 13, 2000, when a freak tornado took a wide path of destruction in South Montgomery, and included tough damage and business interruption to Ramer Manufacturing. Although all property was demolished and had to be rebuilt, MonCre telephone had lines open and up the next day – Valentine’s Day. Today, Ramer Manufacturing, Inc. grosses between four to five million dollars, annually.
Future Plans: Mr. Miles is very optimistic about Ramer Manufacturing. “We can build more equipment now than ever before. I think we are ready to meet the needs of our customers and any challenge that comes our way”, he says. “We are fortunate to enjoy repeat business, and we will continue to treat each customer with the service and courtesy they deserve. Always looking for the right people, we also offer employees good salaries with insurance and benefits. These are the things that keep a good business going and growing”.
