Demario is her first child to have as a student at home. "I'm enjoying it. She says. "He can get the one to one
attention he needs." This is the second year he has
been home-schooled. Her husband Calvin helps with
the studies, teaching two hours in the morning and
Glinda takes over with two in the afternoon. "So far it is
working very well", she added.
Glinda is a paraprofessional at Jeff Davis High School in
Montgomery, and has been working within the school
system for 10 years, in different roles. Currently she
works with 11th grade students.
Children are her passion, and she enjoys working
with them, regardless of their ages. She says she
loves helping them, and works with the disabled and
physically handicapped students.
Glinda attended the Alabama Healthcare school in
Montgomery and obtained a Nursing Assistant Course
certificate in 1980. She is in her fifth year as a private
duty nurse, working over nights from 10pm-6pm.
Sometimes it is hard to juggle her work, home-
schooling and still have time for community interest."The secret", she says, "is disciplining your time—
making the time to do the things you have to do."
Like for instance, serving as a board member for
MonCre. This is her first time to serve on a board
and she finds it interesting. "They say I'm quiet,
but I'm the new kid on the block. You have to have
patience to learn. Currently," she added, "I'm the
only woman on the board, and that plays a big part.
I think my input can be helpful. The board has a
huge responsibility and it's a big challenge. I think
we're doing a good job. Overall, MonCre has a bright
future—sometimes you don't get what you want
immediately, but in the end the members will be very
pleased with the results."
Glinda is busy working or teaching most of the time,
but when she carves out time for just herself, she
enjoys a good mystery novel. She also likes baking
desserts—"Everyone says my red velvet cake is the
best," she confides, "and you can bet that's probably
true."
Welcome and special thanks to Glinda Griffin for
sharing some of her time to serve on the MonCre
Telephone Co-op board of directors.
